Iga Swiatek reaches first US Open final, will face fifth seed Ons Jabeur at 4.00am London time on Monday 28 August. And Iga Swiatek has won her first ever US Open title.
Swiatek beat Karolina Pliskova 6&4 in a high quality final. After beating Pliskova in the third round, Iga Swiatek had to come back and win the second set with 6&5. But she had to give it and get through to the final round.
Swiatek was looking to become the youngest woman to win a major title at 17.25 years old.
Earlier on 27 August, the 27 year old Czech was seen celebrating her win with her family, along side her coach Petra Kvitova.
Swiatek has been one of the stars of the season and proved her worth for the rest of the Slams and WTA Finals.
Swiatek, who has reached only one semi-final in her 6 Slams, has only won two points in two singles events.
In the first singles event, she fell in the first round to Kristina Barrois.
But last year, this was the first time Swiatek won her first slam since Wimbledon 2008 at the US Open.
The Czech has been one of the rising lights of women’s tennis and has been a part of the winning era of both the WTA and WTA Tour.
Swiatek has been one of the most consistent and reliable players throughout the tournament, winning the last 6-7 weeks of the season on a regular basis.
Swiatek will now head to the final round of the US Open.
Iga Swiatek has qualified for the final round at the US Open as an amateur. The final round will be broadcast live on BBC from 4.00am.
In the final round, Iga Swiatek will face 5th seed Ons Jabeur in a last chance encounter.
