At first speaking event in 5 years, Kevin Spacey to receive lifetime achievement award
Actor Kevin Spacey will be feted with a lifetime achievement award at a private party in Los Angeles on Monday (18).
Starland Ballroom owner Mark Cuban is donating $100,000 to the actor’s foundation, said to have been set up by his family and some friends.
Cuban, who has donated $300,000 to the foundation, revealed his intentions during an interview with CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Monday.
‘I feel like I’m in a position now where it would be great for me to give a life achievement award to somebody,’ Cuban told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin on Monday, according to a transcript of the interview posted by The Hollywood Reporter.
‘I’m just trying to encourage people to give out awards like this. It’s so nice to be able to give a life achievement award.
‘It seems like an odd thing to do, but it’s true.
‘There’s no doubt in my mind there should be awards for people who have the courage of their convictions and have the ability to change the narrative.
‘I know a lot of actors have the courage of their convictions. They’re willing to stand up to all kinds of people, and sometimes it just gets lost. And I’m hoping that one day, these people are willing to stand up and help.
‘Here’s the problem, though: When you can’t stand and are willing to stand, you’re usually standing on someone else’s dime. I think that’s really what I want to do here is to help other people. And I want to help this people.’
‘The most important thing, whether it’s in our career or not, is that we help the people who need it most. And the most important things in life is to help the people you love. That’s my personal belief.
‘And you don’t have to be famous. I don’t think it’s that hard. I don’t know why it is that so many people go to Hollywood to become famous. And I think the answer is that you shouldn’t have to be famous to help somebody.
‘But you also shouldn’t be famous so that you can benefit financially
