Qatar’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that an estimated 5,000 Chinese tourists had been on the ground in Qatar since the start of the country’s World Cup qualifying campaign for next month’s tournament in Russia.
The ministry on Sunday also said that it had allowed over 5,000 extra Chinese citizens to enter the country.
It was not immediately clear how many of those extra Chinese individuals came with visas, but the ministry said the government “has no plan” to take any extra measures in response to any possible diplomatic backlash.
