Two men were charged with murder in the death of a woman involved in a crash on Thanksgiving in Orange County.
Deputies responded to an accident on U.S. Highway 46 south of Anaheim at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday morning. The driver of a pickup truck, who reported he had struck and killed a woman, left the scene at about 2:30 a.m., but the passenger in the pickup, who reported there was a woman in the truck that he had struck, remained at the crash scene for an extended period of time.
At around 1 p.m., deputies responded to the crash scene.
The truck that hit the woman then went to the right, and the pickup truck left the left side of the highway.
The pickup truck then struck a tree in the northbound lane and rolled over several times, striking a gas line and a building.
The passenger who remained at the scene of the crash for hours told investigators that he was driving the pickup truck. He claimed he did not know the woman was in it until he saw the passenger’s face near the front of his pickup truck and could see she was dead.
This is an ongoing investigation in the fatal accident.
The passenger told authorities he struck the woman in the highway, then drove into the woods, where he got out of the pickup truck. When he saw the woman’s body, he went into the woods on foot.
At the time of the collision, the woman was standing in the roadway south of the intersection of U.S. Highway 46 and East Paces Ferry Road. She was wearing a light-colored jacket.
The victim’s body was placed in a trash bag and taken to Orange County funeral home.
The suspect, 23 years old, faces charges of killing a person, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury
